In addition to praising the achievements made by several players during their captaincy spells, former India batting powerhouse and head coach Rahul Dravid personally selected the finest captain he had ever worked with.
Vakkadai Biksheswaran Chandrasekhar was the one who shaped him with his competitiveness and drive for victory, even though he played under and even served as a captain.
A key player in the local setup, Chandrasekhar played seven ODIs for India and was perhaps as daring as Krishnamachari Srikkanth.
"I really enjoyed playing cricket under VB Chandrasekhar. I was at an impressionable age in my career. I learned a lot playing league cricket under him in Tamil Nadu. I enjoyed the way he went about things, his competitiveness, and his desire to win. VB was really one of the early captains I enjoyed working with," Dravid said on Ashwin's YouTube Channel on the 'Kutti Stories with Ash' show.
Rahul Dravid made his FC debut for Karnataka in the 1990-91 season and played 298 FC matches, scoring 23794 runs with 68 centuries and 117 fifties at an average of 55.33.
“The way he managed…”- Rahul Dravid praises MS Dhoni for smooth transition in the Indian team.
Dravid continued by explaining how several captains, like MS Dhoni, Anil Kumble, and Sourav Ganguly, have had a unique impact.
"I thought Dhoni was really good. At the backend, the way he managed. Not an easy transition for him from being a young man to captain the kind of guys that they were. Sourav (Ganguly), in his own way, brought a lot to Indian cricket by being clear on wanting to win. Anil (Kumble) was pretty good as well; he was clear with his communication," he added.
Rahul Dravid played 164 Tests, 344 ODIs, and one T20I for India from 1996, scoring 13288, 10889, and 31 runs, respectively.
