Asia Cup is set to be played in the T20 format this year as a part of teams’ preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year in February in India and Sri Lanka.

A total of eight teams are taking part in the continental event for the first time. With the tournament set to commence on September 9, we rank the top 5 teams in Asia Cup 2025:

5. Bangladesh

It is unfortunate for Bangladesh to be ranked fifth before Asia Cup. They are booming at the right time under their new captain Litton Das and they recently defeated Sri Lanka in a T20I series too after being 0-1 down.

However, they lost to the UAE before that as well. Consistency has been a big issue for Bangladesh despite showcasing talent several times. Can they sustain their good performances long enough though? This is the big question.

4. Pakistan

Pakistan seem to have moved on from Rizwan and Babar in the shortest format. But they will be tested under new skipper Salman Ali Agha, who is leading in a multi-nation event for the first time.

Nevertheless, the team looks decent, but their inexperienced players’ temperament will be tested, especially in a high-profile clash against India. With several fresh faces, this Pakistan squad doesn’t have the baggage of early losses and their fearless approach might just be the tonic they need in the shortest format of the game.

3. Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka are the defending champions when it comes to the Asia Cup T20 as they won in 2022. However, their captain is changed since then and Charith Asalanka has taken over.

He is doing a fantastic job and after a long time, the team looks settled with Sanath Jayasuriya as a coach. Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera have been solid batters alongside their skipper while the bowlers are good enough to restrict the opposition as well.

2. Afghanistan

Afghanistan have settled the debate if they are the second-best team in Asia at the moment. Their performances in white-ball cricket have been consistent over the last few years and have grown only in stature.

Even in the Asia Cup, they are the second best side led by Rashid Khan. The experience and class of Mohammad Nabi, Naveen-ul-Haq and Rahmanullah Gurbaz keep them in good stead. Add to it their spinners like Rashid and Noor who can turn the game on its head with their spell and threaten to literally go all the way this time.

1. India

Team India are the best side by a long way in the Asia Cup, looking at their squad. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are among the most experienced players in their line-up and around them is a young brigade that is hungry to perform.

Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy among others make the men in blue the strongest team in the Asia Cup this year.
