Former Indian head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has slammed the English middle-order batter Harry Brook for his shot selection, which didn’t go out well as he got dismissed against the run of play for 23 runs just before the stroke of lunch on Day 4.
Delving into the details of his dismissal, Brook went against Akash Deep in the 20th over of the second innings, hitting two consecutive fours and a maximum to end the over on a high, bringing in the Bazball approach.
However, things turned upside down when Akash came out to bowl in the 22nd over. Interestingly, Brook once again tried to sweep the Indian seamer for a boundary, but he couldn’t middle the ball as he got bowled for 23 runs off 19 deliveries, putting England in trouble 15 minutes before lunch.
Speaking on his dismissal, Shastri stated that the risk element was pretty huge for Brook as had he connected the ball, he could’ve got only one run as India changed the field for the batter, which resulted in getting the prized wicket.
"Brook can be destructive - the impact he wanted to make with those two reverse sweeps, he did that. But I think he is too good a player to put his wicket at risk at that stage of the game. It was a nothing shot. He was only going to get one run even if he connected. The risk element was huge," Ravi Shastri told Sky Sports.
Ultimately, England got all out for 192 runs in 62.1 overs, with Joe Root being the top scorer with 40 runs in 96 balls. In the 193-run chase, India is looking in all sorts of trouble at 58/4 in 17.4 overs at stumps on Day 4. KL Rahul, the opening batter, is unbeaten on 33 with Rishabh Pant set to join him on Day 5.
