RCB can aim for a top-two finish: Saba Karim

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim feels the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have a good chance to aim for a top-two finish and strengthen their chances of lifting the elusive silverware in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

With the IPL season heading to the business end, the RCB is scheduled to take on the Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, May 9.

It’s important to note that RCB is currently holding the second rank on the points table with 16 points from 11 matches. Notably, RCB needs just one win to make it to the playoffs while they have the best chance this time around to become the first team in IPL history to have 100% win record away from home in a single season.

“RCB are in a strong position to win this encounter. LSG, at this stage, seems down and out, their batters haven’t clicked, and the bowling unit hasn’t fired either. Even their captain, Rishabh Pant, has struggled," he said on JioStar.

Furthermore, Saba Karim asserted that former skipper Virat Kohli, captain Rajat Patidar and other players had played a big part in taking the side to a comfortable position in the standings.

"RCB can aim for a top-two finish. Virat Kohli is in prime form, Rajat Patidar is a promising leader, and Jitesh Sharma, Tim David—all are contributing well. Their bowling attack looks strong with Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the spin of Krunal Pandya, and the right-arm leg-spinner Suyash Sharma, all in good form. When you’re looking to seal a play-off berth and a top-two spot, facing a struggling side like LSG gives you the chance to dominate. RCB should impose themselves, just like Punjab did against Delhi," he added.

After the contest against the Super Giants on Friday, RCB will next take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 13 and May 17 respectively.
