In an unfortunate piece of news for RCB fans, Josh Hazlewood is unlikely to return to IPL after a shoulder niggle ruled him out of the team's previous game against the Chennai Super Kings at home on May 3.
Moreover, he was also not supposed to take part in the game against the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, May 9, before the tournament got suspended. For the unversed, Hazlewood is the leading wicket-taker for RCB this season with 18 wickets from 10 games.
To make things more interesting, Hazlewood is expected to be picked in Australia's Test squad for the WTC Final, scheduled to take place next month against South Africa. The Australian team will have a conditioning camp in the UK in the first week of June.
On Friday, May 9, the BCCI officials and IPL Governing Council announced that the remainder of the IPL 2025 season was postponed for a week and the new schedule would be announced soon.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said in the official statement.
‘At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation. We express our solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces and the people of our country. The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation, as they lead a resolute response to the recent terrorist attack and the unwarranted aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces,” the statement added.
