Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally lifted their maiden IPL trophy by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) on June 3 in Ahmedabad in the IPL 2025 final. Now, the final has created another record, as it drew 169 million television viewers, making it the highest-ever viewership for any cricket match in India.
The 2021 T20 World Cup held the previous record clash between India and Pakistan, which drew 166 million viewers. Now, the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) has confirmed the new record set by the IPL 2025 final. The summit clash took place on a weekday, yet it recorded a Television Rating (TVR) of 11, which is the third-highest in IPL history.
The IPL 2025 final also accumulated 15 billion watch minutes, surpassing the 14.2 billion minutes recorded during the India vs South Africa T20 World Cup 2024 final. This is a huge success for the tournament, especially considering it faced a one-week suspension due to the unavoidable war-like conditions between India and Pakistan.
Even after the resumption of the competition, fans showed their love—and these numbers are the proof. It was quite evident from day one of the recently concluded season, where the opening weekend drew over 253 million viewers and recorded 27.7 billion watch minutes.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) clash drew a total of 163 million views, showcasing the power of these franchises to attract their fans. Overall, this success only shows that the IPL continues to be the brand that is redefining sport in India. Going forward, it is expected to grow even more.
However, the emotional quotient of RCB and Virat Kohli playing the final and winning it finally for the first time in 18 years played a huge role. Fans were eager to see it, and when it comes to RCB and their fans, the passion, the love, and the backing are unmatched.
Hence, it was a season to be remembered—from a cricketing, achievement, and broadcasting point of view. But now, all eyes will be on RCB again—whether they can defend the title in 2026. Because more fans will back them, support them, and expectations will be much higher.
