Jasprit Bumrah

Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah could be out of the group stages of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be played in Pakistan and Dubai. Bumrah had not participated with the ball in Australia's second innings of the recently concluded fifth Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney.

After bowling just 10 overs in the first innings, Bumrah went to the hospital for scans and it was revealed by Prasidh Krishna that the star speedster is suffering from back spasms.

It was initially said that Bumrah would be rested from the white-ball series against England to gain full fitness for the ICC Champions Trophy. However, according to a report from RevSportz, while Bumrah would be picked for the tournament, he would likely be available for selection only in the knockout stages if the injury is severe.

Bumrah bowled 151.2 overs in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and that took a toll on his fitness. This could spell doom for India, who are already sweating on the fitness of Mohammed Shami.

Shami had undergone surgery on his Achilles tendon in February 2024 and couldn't be fit in time for India's Border Gavaskar Trophy face-off against Australia. The Aussies won the series 3-1 and retained the trophy for the first time since 2014.

Jasprit Bumrah was the player of the series in the Border Gavaskar Trophy

For his incredible performance with the ball, Bumrah was named the Player of the Series. In five Tests, Bumrah picked up 32 wickets at an average of less than 13, which is simply incredible from the Indian speedster.

India would be desperate to have Bumrah fit and firing in the Champions Trophy as they are in a tricky group with the likes of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. India will kickstart their Champions Trophy campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh in Dubai.
