Virat Kohli get Champions Trophy ultimatum by BCCI

Both star Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma struggled for form in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. Kohli scored a hundred in Perth but ended up adding just 90 more runs in eight innings. Rohit's form was worse, scoring just 31 runs in five innings, and was also dropped for the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

According to a news report by India Today, the future of both Rohit and Virat might be under the scanner if they do not perform well in the Champions Trophy. In the BCCi review meeting, the performances of the duo and the batting order in general during the Border Gavaskar Trophy were discussed at length.

"The meeting was detailed, with lengthy discussions on the team's performance, especially the batting lineup. Management wanted to understand why Indian batters, despite having a strong lineup, have not been able to perform. They also focused on identifying the core reasons and how to rectify them," a BCCi source was quoted as saying in the report.

Captaincy change could happen after the Champions Trophy

As per the report, no wholesale changes are expected for the Champions Trophy as both Rohit and Virat are set to be selected.

However, if they couldn't improve their form, then some big calls could be made about their future. Rohit Sharma's future as a captain also looks uncertain after the Champions Trophy as the BCCI may look at other options.

"As of now, nothing will happen, but the management is considering captaincy changes going forward after the Champions Trophy. If things do not change, steps may be taken regarding captaincy. As far as Virat is concerned, he also needs to show some runs, but I don't see either of them being removed from the Test team as we speak. Everything depends on their performance in the Champions Trophy," the report quoted a BCCI source as saying.
