Team India’s explosive middle-order batter, Rinku Singh, has been named in the 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. However, in a recent interview with RevSportz, Rinku admitted that he was a bit worried about his selection, considering his dip in form in both international and domestic cricket in recent times.
But soon after the squad announcement, Rinku responded in style by smashing his maiden T20 century. The blistering knock came for Meerut Mavericks in the ongoing UP T20 League, where he guided his team to a successful chase of a 168-run target.
"I got motivated after I saw my name on the Asia Cup list. I did not do well last year, and I felt that it was possible that I would get left out. But the selectors showed trust in me and selected me and that gave me a confidence boost. The innings that I played in the UP T20 League has boosted my confidence and I would take it there," he said.
Rinku also revealed that the current selectors are placing more value on multi-skilled players, which may have played a role in his selection. He pointed out that he can also bowl one or two overs if needed.
"Bowling is very important today. The selectors want you to have multiple roles in the team. If you cannot affect the game by bat, do it with the ball," he said.
On his batting role, whether for his IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) or Team India, Rinku stated that he is ready to bat anywhere according to the team’s needs. However, he personally wishes to bat higher up the order instead of always being slotted in at number seven.
"I batted at No. 5 in 2023. I do not feel good when I bat at No. 7 and No. 8. But it is the team's need, so you have to perform in that role. I have played 33 T20I matches for the Indian team and I have scored 3 fifties. I can bat everywhere, not just in the finisher's role," Rinku said.
Rinku had a disappointing IPL 2025 season with KKR, scoring just 206 runs in 13 matches at an average of 29.42, with his highest score being an unbeaten 38.
