Rishabh Pant achieves career-best rank in the latest ICC Test rankings

Indian vice-captain and keeper-batter Rishabh Pant has rocketed one spot to the career-best seventh position in the newly released ICC Test rankings for batters after his twin centuries in the Leeds Test against England.

Interestingly, Pant emerged as the first Indian batter to score twin centuries in England. He also became the second keeper-batter after Andy Flower to score twin centuries in England. While he scored 134 runs in the first innings, he followed it up with 118 in the second innings.

Though Indian batters, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Pant, scored five centuries in the Leeds Test, India failed to be on the winning side as England bagged a comfortable five-wicket win on Day 5 of the Leeds Test.

On the other hand, England's opening batter Ben Duckett, who scored an exceptional 149-run knock against India in the second innings and a half-century in the first innings, surged five spots up in the rankings to his career-best eighth position. Notably, Duckett was awarded the player of the match for his batting heroics in the Leeds Test.

Also, the new Indian Test captain, Shubman Gill, who smacked a century in the first innings, moved five spots up to the 29th rank, with Ollie Pope, No.3 batter, moving three spots up to the 19th rank.

Furthermore, former England skipper Joe Root continues to occupy the pole position, with England dashing batter Harry Brook retaining his second rank. Root was unbeaten on 53 in the 371-run chase in the fourth innings while Brook smacked 99 in the first innings.

Also, the Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored an exceptional century in the first innings, continues to be the highest-ranked Indian batter at the fourth rank. Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah retained his No.1 rank in the ICC bowling rankings in Tests after his 12th five-wicket haul away from home.
