Rishabh Pant opens up on talking to himself while batting

Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant was seen chatting to himself during his batting in the second innings of the Leeds Test. While he scored a century in the first innings of the opening Test, he started off on an uneven note in the second innings, playing a few rash shots.

However, he was seen instructing himself not to lose his temper. Eventually, he went on to score twin centuries in the opening Test, though it ended in vain as England went on to win by five wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Moreover, Pant can also be seen speaking a lot behind the stumps, right from guiding the Indian bowlers to taking funny digs at the opposition batters while they were batting at the crease. In the pre-match press conference, Pant has opened up on his self-chatter.

"The idea is to keep talking to myself as a batter. It's always been like this. But in this series, the stump mic is picking up a lot more,” Rishabh Pant said at the pre-match press conference ahead of the third Test.

"As a batter, I've been doing the same things. As a kid, I used to keep telling myself what to do. My coach, the late Tarak Sinha, advised me to keep talking to myself. Whatever he taught me, I still try to follow the same things," he added.

It’s important to note that Pant has already amassed 342 runs from four innings in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, including two centuries and a fifty, leading the run-scoring charts in third position behind Shubman Gill (585) and Harry Brook (356).

Notably, in the Leeds Test, Pant emerged as the only Indian batter to score twin centuries in a Test in England.
