With two consecutive hundreds in the opening Test match against England, India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was playing at his most aggressive level. The English bowlers appeared absolutely lost against him, and his tremendous hitting caused them a lot of trouble.
India lost despite two outstanding hundreds from Pant, as England's hitters easily chased down the total of 371 with five wickets remaining. Shubman Gill and company are preparing for the second Test in Birmingham, where they are behind 0-1 in the five-match series.
Pant will be aiming to surpass India's legendary batter Virat Kohli in an elite list in the second Test at Edgbaston, which would be a tremendous accomplishment. As of right now, Pant and Kohli have each scored five Test hundreds against England.
Rishabh Pant to go past Virat Kohli and join Mohammed Azharuddin if he scores a century in Edgbaston
Pant would overtake Kohli to record the second-highest number of hundreds by an Indian in Test matches against England if he hits another century in the next Test. He will draw level with ex-India captain Mohammed Azharuddin, who scored six hundreds in Test matches against the Three Lions.
Rahul Dravid and the great Sachin Tendulkar currently share the record for the most hundreds scored by an Indian in Test matches against England. Seven tons were hit by both batters.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the surgeon who operated on Rishabh Pant after his near-fatal car accident, revealed details about his injuries. He highlighted how badly his right knee was injured.
"When he first came in, he had a dislocated right knee. He also had an injury to his right ankle and lots of other minor injuries all over. He had a lot of skin loss, so his entire skin from the nape of the neck down to his knees was completely scraped off in the process of that accident. Then getting out of the car—that broken glass scraped off a lot of the skin and the flesh from his back," Dr. Pardiwala recalled in an interview with the Telegraph.
The journey back was a long one. Pant had one of the most incredible comebacks in modern sports following 635 days of recovery, which included multiple surgeries, intense physical therapy, and unwavering determination.
