In an unfortunate turn of events, the Indian vice-captain and keeper-batter Rishabh Pant got injured on the field on Day 1 of the Lord’s Test as the ball got hit on his left index finger before he walked off the field.
Interestingly, Dhruv Jurel, the substitute keeper, took over the keeping duties in Pant’s absence on the field. A few overs later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came up with a fresh update on Pant’s injury via X (Formerly Twitter).
“Update: #TeamIndia vice-captain Rishabh Pant got hit on his left index finger. He is receiving treatment at the moment and under the supervision of the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is currently keeping wickets in Rishabh's absence,” the BCCI tweeted.

Moving into the details, in the 34th over, Jasprit Bumrah had sprayed down one on the leg side during the second session, which Pant tried to stop by putting in a dive towards his left. Though he got his fingers on the ball, he couldn’t stop it completely as England batters Joe Root and Ollie Pope took a couple.
For a brief period, the play was halted as Pant received treatment from the Indian support staff. Though the action resumed, he was seen in pain, shrugging his fingers. Eventually, he was taken off the field with Jurel taking over the keeping duties.
At stumps on Day 1, England were at 251/4 in 83 overs with Joe Root (99) and Ben Stokes (39) staying at the crease. For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy scalped two wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah pocketed one wicket apiece.
It would be interesting to watch if Pant resumes the action on the second day of the Lord’s Test. Importantly, Pant’s batting heroics would be awaited by the Indian fans.
