Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player sold in IPL history in the recent IPL 2025 mega auction that was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Pant, who was released by the Delhi Capitals (DC), was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a record Rs 27 crores.
Rishabh Pant thus broke the previous record set by Shreyas Iyer, who had received an INR 26.75 crore deal from Punjab Kings. Rishabh Pant’s name saw a bidding war between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and LSG, with SRH joining in midway.
After the bid value reached INR 20.75 Crore, SRH bowed out, and Pant’s old franchise, DC, decided to use its RTM card. LSG was given the chance to increase their bid amount, and Sanjiv Goenka decided to break the bid value record and bid INR 27 crores for Rishabh Pant. DC declined to match the amount, and Pant will play for LSG in IPL 2025.
Rishabh Pant’s price increase in IPL
Rishabh Pant first featured in the IPL auction in the 2016 edition and was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 1.60 crores and was retained for the same price in the subsequent two seasons. From IPL 2018 onwards, Rishabh Pant was not only continuously retained by the DC franchise, but his price also increased to INR 8 crores.
Rishabh Pant was retained by the Delhi Capitals from IPL 2018-2021 for INR 8 crores, showing that the team was interested in his services and invested in him. He also captained the side in IPL 2021 after Shreyas Iyer got injured.
Then came the IPL 2022 mega auction, and Rishabh Pant was retained as captain by Delhi for INR 16 crores. Due to the unfortunate car accident in 2022, Rishabh Pant didn’t play in the IPL 2023, but when he returned in IPL 2024, he was retained for INR 1 crore.
However, his price increase took a huge leap in the IPL 2025 mega auction, as Delhi Capitals released Pant in the auction, and he was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 27 crores. This made him the most expensive player ever in IPL history.
