Former Indian cricketer Rohan Gavaskar has slammed the Indian team’s approach against Oman. Notably, Team India could secure a 21-run win in their last group stage clash before moving to the Super Four round in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Rohan has asserted that the Indian team played the game against Oman in second gear. Moreover, he also talked about the bowling attack not being potent enough to scalp timely wickets.
Notably, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana were named in the XI, replacing Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy. While Arshdeep conceded 37 runs in his four-over spell, picking up the wicket of keeper-batter Vinayak Shukla, Harshit conceded 25 runs in his three-over spell, pocketing the wicket of well-set Aamir Kaleem.
"When you are a bench player and not a certainty in the XI, and you come up against a team like Oman, you have got to be picking up wickets. Don't care what the others are doing and play for more matches. If you don't look threatening or wicket-taking, then that is a problem. You can play in second gear. We have played this game in second gear," Rohan Gavaskar said on Cricbuzz.
Moreover, the Junior Gavaskar also felt that the Indian team didn’t take the game seriously, adding that Tilak Varma and Abhishek Sharma rolled their arms. Additionally, he was also critical of Suryakymar Yadav not coming out to bat with Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Harshit getting their chances to bat.
"Tilak Varma bowled, Abhishek Sharma bowled, so it showed that they didn't take the game seriously. The batting order was such that Suryakumar did not bat. They have not taken the game seriously but the bowling also did not. But the main bowlers will be thinking these Oman batters were 20 short of what would have been a historical victory for them," he added.
