Indian deputy skipper Shubman Gill hailed captain Rohit Sharma after he found form with a brilliant century in the second ODI of the three-match series against England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
After England had set a 305-run target for Team India, the second innings started off well for Men In Blue with opening batters Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill charging down the surface against all the opposition bowlers.
While Rohit Sharma went on to score 119 runs in 90 balls with 12 fours and seven sixes, his partner Shubman Gill smacked 60 runs off 52 balls with nine fours and one six.
"Was feeling good when I was batting and, obviously, batting with Rohit bhai, he makes it look easy. The way he took on the bowlers, we have seen that in the last couple of years, how he has batted in ODIs," Shubman Gill said after the match.
"It was a good wicket to bat on, the odd ball was keeping a bit low but overall a good wicket. The chat was simple, just play according to the ball and try and dominate when you can," he added.
Both Rohit and Gill added a 136-run opening stand before the latter lost his wicket to Jamie Overton. Indian skipper Rohit has stated that he enjoyed batting with Gill and Iyer as they assisted him in stitching a long-awaited century.
"I got very good support from Gill and Shreyas (Iyer) as well. I enjoy batting with Gill. He is a very classy player and doesn't seem to get overawed by the situation and the numbers are there as well,” Rohit Sharma stated in the post-match presentation ceremony.
After Rohit Sharma's dismissal, Shreyas Iyer (44) and Axar Patel (41*) continued their good form. Axar and Ravindra Jadeja (11) steered Team India home with a four-wicket win.
With the series already clinched, Team India will next take on England in the third ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
