Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has asserted that the Mumbai Indians' opening batter and former skipper Rohit Sharma hasn’t scored 600 or 700 runs in an IPL season so far, which Kohli regularly does.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif stated that Rohit often scores in one or two matches in a season and wins the player of the match, but the biggest challenge remains for him to cross 500 or 600 runs in a season.

"We talk about Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, but Rohit Sharma has not scored 700-800 runs in a season. In the IPL, he gets points for captaincy and experience, but when you compare him with Virat Kohli or some other batter, he doesn't score 600-700 runs. He scores in one or two matches and becomes the Man of the Match," Mohammad Kaif said on his YouTube channel.

In the IPL 2025 season, Rohit accumulated 418 runs at a strike rate of 149.29, including four half-centuries. His best IPL season came way back in 2013 when he amassed 538 runs in 19 games at an average of 38.42 and a strike rate of 131.54.

"So, the biggest test for him this time is to cross the 500-run or 600-run mark. Sai Sudharsan scored 750 runs this time. So, Rohit Sharma would also want to score around 600 runs because he has gotten lean and is in good form. He will be very hungry for runs in this IPL," he added.

There were rumours of Kolkata Knight Riders roping in Rohit Sharma for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. However, the MI franchise was quick to debunk all rumours, stating that Rohit would continue with the franchise.
