Rohit Sharma likely to drop himself from SCG Test

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is likely to drop himself in the fifth Test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Friday, January 3. According to The Indian Express report, Rohit will make way from the playing XI and Jasprit Bumrah could be leading the Indian team. 

Rohit Sharma has been in poor form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy with just 31 runs in the series so far. He could be replaced by Shubman Gill with Bumrah set to lead the side. 

Gill had missed the previous Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and could come back and occupy the No.3 spot with KL Rahul likely to open the batting again with Yashasvi Jaiswal. 

Head coach Gautam Gambhir made it to the press conference on the eve of the Sydney Test and did not utter any confirmation about Rohit SHarma's spot in the playing XI. 

Here's what he told reporters:

"Everything is fine with Rohit and I don't think it's anything traditional. The head coach is here and that should be good enough. We are going to have a look at the wicket and finalise (the team) tomorrow."

India had historically won the Perth Test by 295 runs under the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah to take a 1-0 lead in the series. However, it has all gone downhill since with Australia winning inn Adelaide pink ball Test and in Melbourne. Rohit averages just 10.93 in 15 innings under the tenure of Gautam Gambhir. 

The Indian Express had also suggested that Gambhir had some stern words to say in the dressing room and it won't be a surprise if Jasprit Bumrah walks out for the toss in Sydney on Friday, January 3. 

India have to beat Australia to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and entertain any hopes of making it to the WTC final.
