Indian keeper-batter Sanju Samson continues to be a major headache for the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir as he went on to smack yet another match-winning half-century for the Kochi Blue Tigers in the ongoing Kerala Cricket League 2025 season.

On Sunday, August 31, Tigers' opening batter Samson went on to smack 83 runs in 41 balls with two fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 202.44. Samson's exceptional half-century propelled the Tigers to seal victory in 18.2 overs with three wickets in hand.

It’s worth noting that this was Samson’s fourth consecutive fifty-plus score as an opener in the competition. While he started off with a 121-run knock off 51 balls, later, he scored 89 runs off 46 balls and 62 runs off 37 balls to display his heroics with the willow.

Notably, Samson is the second-leading run-scorer of the KCL 2025 campaign, accumulating 368 runs from five innings at an average of 73.6 and a strike rate of 186.8 with 24 fours and 30 sixes.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma is expected to open the innings in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025 campaign alongside the new vice-captain, Shubman Gill, with Samson likely to be benched or dropped down to the middle-order.

Last year, Samson amassed 436 runs in 12 innings at an average of 43.60, with a strike rate of 180.16, including three centuries and a fifty. Nevertheless, he is most likely to lose his opening spot for the upcoming eight-team showpiece event.

Team India will start off their Asia Cup campaign against the UAE on Wednesday, September 10, in Dubai, while they will lock horns with the arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, September 14, in Dubai. Later, they will play their final group stage fixture against Oman on Friday, September 19, in Abu Dhabi.
