Sanju Samson looks like a man who is really low on confidence at this point: Ravi Ashwin

Former Indian spinner and analyst Ravi Ashwin has stated that the Indian opening batter Sanju Samson has been really low on confidence at the moment. Notably, Ashwin’s comments came right after Samson’s yet another poor show in Trivandrum.

Interestingly, Samson could score only 46 runs in five games against New Zealand. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan emerged as the second-leading run-scorer of the five-match series with 215 runs from four games.

"Sanju looks like a man who is really low on confidence at this point. In international cricket, you have to find answers to things. It is also about how you handle pressure. For both these things, there has to be an answer from Sanju. This looks concerning," Ravi Ashwin said on the 'Ash ki Baat' YouTube channel.

Furthermore, Ashwin reckoned that Tilak Varma would be benched for the initial two games in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Moreover, Ashwin also shared his two cents on the Kishan vs Samson debate.

"The team India played today, it looks like it is close to the final 11 at the T20 World Cup. I'm not saying this is it, but I got that feel that they could start off with this. Even if Tilak comes back, he might not start off and get a break for the first two games," he added.

"Let us keep Indian cricket at the top. When you do that, you have to do what is best for the team, through your eyes, be it a captain or a coach, what you think is good for your team, do that. Life is not fair, the world is not fair. Someone will get two chances, someone will get five, someone 100. We have to play with the cards we have in our hands. If we want to complain, it will be heard by very few people within the closed walls of our house. It is what it is," he concluded.
