Similar to Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi's Big Bash League (BBL) debut on Monday at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong was a nightmare. After bowling just 2.4 overs in Brisbane Heat's 2025–26 match against Melbourne Renegades, Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi was ordered to end his spell in a completely catastrophic BBL debut. Afridi had a difficult time in Geelong during his Big Bash League debut.
He delivered two waist-high full tosses to Tim Seifert and Ollie Peake in the 18th over of the Renegades' innings, both of which were deemed hazardous. As a result, Heat captain Nathan McSweeney had to bowl the last two deliveries of the over.
The on-field umpire spoke with Heat captain Nathan McSweeney before excluding Afridi from the attack, despite his instant apology. After being asked to bat first, the Renegades scored an impressive 212 for five, and Shaheen finished his session with figures of 2.4-0-43-0.
Later, the BBL posted a video of the beamer with the description, “Wow. On his BBL debut, Shaheen Afridi has been removed from the attack!”
Shaheen had a rough start, giving up nine runs in his first over after being removed from the attack after Tim Seifert hit him for two boundaries. After being struck for a six and two fours, he returned in the thirteenth over but appeared utterly disoriented, yielding 19 runs. Shaheen completely lost control during his third spell and was unable to finish the over.
Another Pakistani player, Mohammad Rizwan, had a poor performance in his BBL debut for the Melbourne Renegades, scoring just four runs off ten balls at a strike rate of forty. Babar Azam, a former captain of Pakistan, scored two runs off five balls in his BBL debut on Sunday while representing the Sydney Sixers.
In the end, the Melbourne Renegades prevailed by 14 runs. Siefert scored 102 while they batted first and scored 212/5. With three wickets for 34 runs in four overs, Jack Wildermuth was Brisbane's best bowler.
