Irfan Pathan, a former all-rounder for India, told some fascinating stories about his on-field confrontations with former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi during their playing days. In a shocking interview, Irfan revealed how Afridi repeatedly attempted to discredit him while also making some vile remarks.
In his interview with Lallantop, Pathan disclosed that during his 2006 tour of Pakistan, he and Afridi got into a furious argument aboard an aeroplane. Pathan said that the former all-rounder for Pakistan initiated the conversation by tampering with his hair.
Even Afridi's former Pakistani teammate, Danish Kaneria, concurred with the former Indian cricket player after Irfan's disclosures of Afridi's actions caused a social media uproar. Kaneria agreed with Irfan, stating that Afridi is the kind of person who lacks "class and decency."
"Irfan @IrfanPathan bhai, you’re absolutely right. He always resorts to personal attacks—be it on someone’s family or their religion. Class and decency clearly aren’t his strengths," Kaneria commented on X.
It's not the first time Kaneria has said something about Afridi. He had previously made a dramatic allegation, saying that he was asked to convert to his religion at the 2009 T20 World Cup.
"He has consistently aligned himself with extremist views. In my opinion, he should not be given a platform on Indian television or within the country. Additionally, he tried to persuade me to convert to Islam and declined to share a meal with me, which I found deeply disrespectful," Kaneria wrote in a post on X earlier this year.
Calling Kaneria a "liar" in an attempt to win sympathy following his spot-fixing ban in county cricket, Afridi rejected the allegations. Afridi's off-field character has once again come under investigation after both Pathan and Kaneria voiced their opinions. The dispute draws attention to the ongoing hostilities and unsolved problems that still plague several of Pakistan's former cricket players.
