Star Pakistan batter and skipper, Babar Azam failed once again to live up to the expectations and got out early in Pakistan’s ongoing second ODI World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka. Notably, both teams are playing their second match of the ODI World Cup 2023 against each other at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the first match against the lower-ranked team, Netherlands, Babar Azam could score only 5 runs before getting out and he could add only 5 runs more to his individual account in this match by the time he got caught by Sadeera Samarawickrama off Dilshan Madhushanka’s delivery in the 8th over.

Babar Azam was also under the scanner for his poor string with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2022, in Australia except for one 53-run knock in the semi-final against New Zealand. The star Lahore batter is yet to prove himself in marquee international tournaments like the World Cups despite being the World's No.1 ODI batter.

Sri Lanka batters outclass Pakistan bowling attack

Speaking of action in the match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, The Islanders’ skipper Dasun Shanaka won the flip of the coin and decided to bat first. However, Sri Lanka faced an early blow when Hasan Ali trapped the opening batter Kusal Perera on a duck just in the second over of the match.

But then came the brilliant batting heroics from the Sri Lankan batters, Pathum Nissanka and wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis stitched a brilliant partnership of 102 runs for the second wicket, which was followed by another amazing 111-run partnership for the third wicket between Kusal Mendis and star middle-order batter Sadeera Samarawickrama. Mendis and Samarawickrama smashed the outstanding centuries and played the knocks of 122 and 108 runs, respectively. Other than these two, opener Pathum Nissanka also contributed with 51 runs.

On the back of these knocks, Dasun Shanaka’s men posted a big total of 344 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Hasan Ali ended up as the leading wicket-taker for Pakistan with 4 wickets in his quota of 10 overs. While chasing the target, Pakistan have lost their two wickets at the score of 60 runs in 12.5 overs.

Here’s how fans reacted to Babar Azam’s poor run of form with the bat:
