India batter Shreyas Iyer has been named in the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team as he made himself available for the semi-final match against Tamil Nadu. On 2nd March Saturday Mumbai will face Tamil Nadu in MCA-BKC ground. After India’s second Test match against England, Shreyas Iyer was dropped out of the squad. Earlier he said that while doing front-foot defence he faced pain in the back. He was sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for medical treatment.

Nitin Patel who is head of sports science and medicine at National Cricket Academy (NCA) mailed the Indian Cricket Board about his fitness stating Shreyas Iyer has no fresh injury and he is fit to play. As per reports Shreyas Iyer faked his injury to miss the quarter-final match against Baroda in the Ranji Trophy.

In his email, Nitin Patel wrote in the email: “Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India.”

Washington Sundar to play in Ranji Trophy for Tamil Nadu

Raju Kulkarni, a member of Mumbai’s selection committee confirmed that Shreyas Iyer will take the place of Suryansh Shedge in the squad. This will be a positive thing for the Mumbai team as their middle order is a problem.

On the other hand, Washington Sundar who was part of the squad for the Test match against England was released from the team and will play for Tamil Nadu in the semifinal match. He was a backup option for Ravichandran Ashwin. As Ravichandran Ashwin has returned back in the India side Washington Sundar was released. By defeating Saurashtra by innings and 33 runs Tamil Nadu booked their spot in the semi-final.
