Shubman Gill joined an elite list of overseas captains scoring centuries in Tests away from home, thanks to his brilliant double ton in the ongoing second Test at the Edgbaston ground in Birmingham.
Resuming from his 114 on day 2 of the match, Shubman Gill toiled hard and concentrated well on the crease. He received huge support from Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 89 runs, before his untimely dismissal. Jadeja and Shubman added 203 runs for the sixth wicket.
Then Washington Sundar joined Shubman Gill and the duo frustrated the England bowlers as well, adding 114 runs for the seventh wicket. Sundar toiled hard and scored a brilliant 42 runs in support of his captain Gill.
Gill, by then, had crossed the 200 mark and ultimately was dismissed for 269 runs, his highest Test and FC score. This was also the highest Test score by an Indian captain, going past Virat Kohli’s 254* against South Africa in 2019 in Pune.
