Shubman Gill set to be India vice-captain for Asia Cup 2025

According to RevSportz sources, Shubman Gill is most likely to be India's T20I vice-captain for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025, which begins on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates.

Gill is probably going to fill in for Suryakumar Yadav, who is expected to be healthy enough to compete in the competition. In addition to marking Gill's comeback to the T20I lineup, this will solidify his position as an emerging leader in the Indian dressing room across all forms.

Suryakumar is on track to reach full fitness before the Asia Cup and has already begun batting in the nets at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Gill, meanwhile, will play in India's T20I team for the first time since he appeared in the 2024 series against Sri Lanka.

With the Gujarat Titans, Gill has also had three successful IPL seasons in a row. He has amassed 890 runs at a strike rate of 157.80, 426 at 147.40, and 650 at 155.88. The think-tank has decided to include Gill again because of his increased strike rate, the majority of the runs he has scored in the IPL, and his developing leadership skills.

Shubman Gill set to be named India’s ODI captain in near future

Gill, who is now India's ODI vice-captain, is expected to lead the team in the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, and is expected to finally become India's ODI captain in the upcoming years.

It's unclear if the change will occur right away, but concerns regarding the form and health of current ODI skipper Rohit Sharma are rising. India's October–November white-ball tour of Australia is Rohit's next scheduled assignment.

Additionally, there was assurance in the system that a leader was being developed when Gill was selected captain of India C in the Deodhar Trophy during the 2019–20 season at the age of just 20. As the youngest captain, he surpassed Virat Kohli's record.

With Gill setting a high standard as Test captain, scoring runs, and leading a young Test side with aplomb, his growth as the new leader of the pack marks the start of a new era in Indian cricket.
