Shubman Gill has been the rising sensation of world cricket. The 24-year-old batter has been the highest run scorer for India in the current year. He has been named as the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT) after their former skipper Hardik Pandya was traded, back to Mumbai Indians (MI) in an all-cash deal of 15 crore INR. Gill has been the star of the franchise in the previous two editions and was the highest run scorer as well in the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In his IPL career, he has scored 1373 runs in 33 innings at an average of 47.34, with three centuries and eight fifties. Last season was monumental for the opener as he slammed 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of 59.33, with three centuries and four fifties, and was also named Orange Cap winner.
The batter has been the regular player for India in all the formats and has been performing well for the national side. He was overwhelmed after being given the captaincy and thanked the franchise as well.
I am delighted and proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill
Gill said, "I am delighted and proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket."
Vikram Solanki, Director of Cricket, Gujarat Titans, said, "Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and standing over the last two years at the highest level of the game. We’ve seen him mature not only as a batter but also as a leader in cricket. His contribution on the field has helped Gujarat Titans emerge as a formidable force, guiding the team through a successful campaign in 2022 and a strong run in 2023. His maturity and skill are evident in his on-field performance and we are extremely excited to embark on a new journey with a young leader like Shubman at the helm."
