On Thursday, January 22, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that batters Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira have been ruled out of the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign and the preceding three-match T20I series against the West Indies.

Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs have replaced the duo for the showpiece event. On the other hand, middle-order batter and finisher David Miller suffered an adductor muscle injury on Monday while playing the SA20 2025-26 campaign, and will play no part in the T20I series against the West Indies. CSA has confirmed that Miller’s availability for the T20 World Cup is subject to the outcome of a fitness test.

On the other hand, Zorzi has not progressed as expected in his rehabilitation from a right hamstring muscle tear sustained during the recently concluded ODI series against India. As a result, he will miss the upcoming showpiece event in India and Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Ferreira sustained a fracture of his left clavicle during a SA20 game earlier this month.

“David Miller suffered an adductor muscle injury on Monday while playing for Paarl Royals and will play no part in the T20I series,” Cricket South Africa said in a statement.

“His availability for the T20 World Cup remains subject to the outcome of a fitness test ahead of the support period. Rubin Hermann has been added to the squad for the T20I series against West Indies in place of Miller,” the CSA statement added.

South Africa will initiate their T20 World Cup campaign against Canada on Monday, February 9, in Group D.

South Africa's updated ICC T20 World Cup 2026 squad: Aiden Markram (c), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Quinton de Kock, Marco Jansen, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Jason Smith, and Tristan Stubbs.
