The Indian Premier League competition, the biggest and most renowned T20 competition in the world, will once again feature batsmen making stunning strokes and outstanding fours.
March 22 marked the start of the IPL 2025 season, which will conclude on May 25 with the final.
Even though not everyone is skilled at six-hitting, particularly in contemporary cricket, a batter's class is determined by their ability to hit the ball down the ground and simultaneously locate the gaps that allow it to reach the boundary ropes.
Since it is nearly impossible to hit every ball for a six, hitting fours becomes an essential part of keeping the scoreboard moving. When it comes to hitting the most fours in the league's history, Indian players have dominated. Let's learn about the top five IPL four-hitting hitters.
Here are the top 5 batters with the most fours in IPL history:
5. Suresh Raina
Dubbed ‘Mr. IPL’, Suresh Raina ruled the roost in the early years of the tournament from 2008 to 2021. Raina played the majority of his career for Chennai Super Kings as MS Dhoni’s deputy and also captained the side. He also played a handful of games for the Gujarat Lions, captaining them in two IPL seasons.
Suresh Raina played 205 IPL games, scoring 5528 runs with 1 century and 39 fifties. His strike rate was 136.73, and he hit 506 fours in his IPL career.
4. Rohit Sharma
The five-time IPL-winning Mumbai Indians captain, Rohit Sharma, comes in at number 4 in this list. Rohit Sharma scored 6628 runs in 258 IPL games, including two hundreds and forty-three fifties. Rohit Sharma has struck 599 fours in those IPL games thus far, and his career strike rate is 131.03.
Apart from MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma is the only IPL captain to have won five championships. For the Mumbai Indians, he won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. He has also won a Champions League title. In the IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya took Rohit's place as MI captain.
3. David Warner
Australian David Warner is considered to be the greatest foreign player to play in the Indian Premier League. Warner played 184 IPL games in his career, scoring 6565 runs with 4 centuries and 62 fifties to his name. He averaged 40.52, mostly opening the innings, and has hit 663 fours in his career.
Warner started his IPL career for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2009 and was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team from 2014 to 2021. However, he represented the Delhi Capitals from 2022 to 2024. He won the IPL in 2016 as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
2. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli, another IPL legend, is the only player to have played exclusively for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) throughout his career. After being selected in the 2008 IPL draft, he captained the team from 2013 to 2021 and guided them to the 2016 championship game. With 4 hundreds and 7 fifties in 16 games in 2016, he set the record for most runs in a single IPL season with 973.
In the meantime, Kohli's IPL career has been the greatest of all time. With 8063 runs at an average of 38.95 and a strike rate of 132.15, he is the tournament's highest-ever run scorer after 253 games. In those games, the classical right-hander has slammed 709 fours to this date.
1. Shikhar Dhawan
The number one place holder is Shikhar Dhawan, who sits at the top with 768 fours to his name in 222 IPL matches. He has scored 6769 runs with 152 sixes at a strike rate of 127.14. He hit 2 centuries and 51 fifties.
Shikhar Dhawan was the first batter to hit back-to-back centuries in the Indian Premier League. He is the only batsman in IPL history who has hit more than 700 fours. He has represented the Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian T20 League.
