Rashid Khan entered the history books after picking two wickets during the Qualifier 1 clash between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals in SA20 2025 on February 4. The Afghanistan spinner dethroned Dwayne Bravo to become the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket history.
Due to the obvious aggressive nature of T20 cricket, bowlers have always come under hammering and been forced to stay away from the limelight they deserve. But some of the bowlers have made a sensational mark in the shortest format of the game to overshadow batters to some extent.
Rashid, 26, now leads the record chart with 633 wickets in just 461 T20 games with an amazing bowling average of 18.07. Apart from Rashid, only three other bowlers have dominated T20 cricket with over 500 wickets.
Bravo, who retired from all forms of cricket in September last year, previously held the record with 631 T20 wickets and is the only fast bowler among the top five leading wicket-takers. However, Rashid managed to surpass the record by playing 121 games less than West Indies legend.
Rashid is expected to dominate the top position in the years to come as he is at the peak of his career, while the remaining nine out of the top ten leading wicket-takers age over 35. Rashid also boasts the best bowling average on the top-ten list, while his economy rate of 6.49 is only bettered by Imran Tahir’s 6.12.
Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal leads the T20 bowling chart records for India with 364 wickets in 309 innings and is currently the twelfth-highest leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket.
