The Indian Premier League (IPL) began in 2008 and has captivated the fans’ imagination from the start. It has brought a revolution in T20 cricket, and since then, it has gone on to become one of the most popular sporting leagues in the world.

This is mostly due to batters playing amazing shots and bringing our creativity into their shot-making. The audience loves the big-hitting and the huge sixes. In particular, if this ton arrives at a rapid rate, the team's chances of victory increase even further due to a significant shift in momentum.

With the bat, some of the best knocks have come at a rapid pace, and today, we take a look at the top five fastest hundreds in IPL history.

The fifth fastest hundred came off the bat of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s Will Jacks against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. GT had batted first and posted 200/3, with Sai Sudarshan top-scoring with 84* and M Shahrukh Khan making 58 runs.

But the target was chased down in 16 overs, as Will Jacks hammered a 41-ball century with 5 fours and 10 sixes. Virat Kohli made 70* in 44 balls, but all eyes were on Jacks as he hammered the hapless GT spinners to all parts of the Ahmedabad ground. Even Rashid Khan went for 51 runs in his 4 overs and was hit for 4 sixes.

The fourth fastest IPL ton belongs to Travis Head of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and it came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru. Put into bat first, Travis Head hammered 102 in 41 balls, reaching his century in just 39 balls. He hit 9 fours and 8 sixes. Thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s 67 and some lower-order hitting by Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad, SRH posted 287/3, the highest IPL total ever.

David Miller comes next in line with an epic 39-ball century to his name. His knock came in the 2013 IPL game between RCB and Punjab Kings. RCB posted 190/3 thanks to half-centuries by Cheteshwar Pujara and Chris Gayle at the top of the order. In response, Punjab was out of the chase at 64/4, but then David Miller played a blinder, scoring 101* in 38 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes, winning Punjab the match by 6 wickets in just 18 overs.

The second fastest IPL century belongs to Yusuf Pathan. The match was played in IPL 2010 between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in Brabourne Stadium. MI batted first and posted 212/6 with Saurabh Tiwary and Ambati Rayudu scoring fifties.

In response, RR lost quick wickets to slip to 66/4, but then Yusuf Pathan hammered 100 in just 37 balls with 9 fours and 8 sixes before getting out at a crucial juncture. His knock brought RR back in the game, but they eventually lost by 4 runs.

The fastest-ever IPL century belongs to Chris Gayle, who, while playing for RCB, made a 30-ball century against Pune Warriors in IPL 2013. He smoked 17 sixes and 13 fours in his 175* in 66 balls. But he reached his century in only 30 balls and was the fastest at that time. He helped RCB post 263/5 in 20 overs, the first time any team crossed 250 in the IPL.
