The 17 editions of the Indian Premier League have seen a roller coaster of cricketing action with Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians being the most successful teams having won five titles each in the league. The latest edition saw Kolkata Knight Riders being crowned the champions for the third time. 

Here in this article, we will look at the top run-chases in the history of IPL.

1. Punjab Kings 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024.

In the 42nd game of IPL 2024 between KKR and PBKS, KKR posted a humungous total of 261/6 in their allotted 20 overs with Sunil Narine and Phil Salt scoring the bulk of runs for the hosts. Chasing 262 to get, Jonny Bairstow led the chase with a scintillating century, scoring 108* off just 68 balls while he was supported by Shashank Singh who brutally went bonkers in the chase contributing an unbeaten 68 off 28 balls that included 10 boundaries to take PBKS over the line with 8 balls to spare.

2. Rajasthan Royals 224 against Punjab Kings in 2020

Sanju Samson and Rahul Tewatia took the game from the Punjab Kings who set a target of 224 for RR in the 9th game of IPL 2020 at Sharjah. The former played a magnificent knock of 85 while the latter changed the cause of the game with his forceful 53 off 31, he smashed five sixes of Sheldon Cottrell in an over which turned the tide towards RR, eventually chasing the target (226/6) by four wickets.

3. Rajasthan Royals 224 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024.

Jos Buttler rose to the occasion with a gutsy hundred to take RR through the line against dominant KKR at Eden Gardens. KKR posted 223 runs in their allotted 20 overs thanks to a magical Ton from Narine. Chasing 224 to get, Buttler wreaked havoc on KKR bowlers to take the team home in the last of the innings his 107* in the game will be remembered for ages as he single-handedly turned the tide in favour of RR. The second top-scorer for RR was Riyan Parag with 34, this showcased how skillful was that knock from Buttler.

4. Mumbai Indians 219 against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021.

The game saw Kieron Pollard registering his highest Score in the tournament of 87* off just 34 balls to take his team over the line. Chasing 219, Pollard entered the crease at the end of 10th over where MI almost needed to score at 13 per over, he took the opposition bowlers to the cleaners with his fearless hitting, scoring an unbeaten 87 which included six fours and eight sixes.

5. 215 is the fifth-highest run chase which Is shared by RR, MI and Twice SRH.

RR chased 215 against Deccan Chargers in 2008 while MI in 2023 chased 215 against PBKS in 2023. SRH has been involved in a 215-run chase on two occasions, first against RR at Jaipur in 2023 and the next against PBKS at Hyderabad in 2024.
