“It is, without question, a heinous incident” - Sunil Gavaskar blasts at the molestation case of the two Australian women cricketers

Two Australian women cricket players attending the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India were stalked, and one of them was groped by a man on a motorbike in a startling event that occurred in Indore. The regrettable occurrence happened Thursday morning in the Khajrana Road area, according to police officials. 

On Friday, the man connected to the event was taken into custody. The culprit, Aqueel Khan, was apprehended after a bystander noted the criminal's motorbike number.

In response to the appalling molestation, Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his horror and called for the accused to face the harshest punishment possible. The Thursday morning event has caused national indignation and international censure, damaging India's standing at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. He has harshly denounced the act and called it a disgrace to the country's principles.

"Yes, I think because we are famous for Atithi Devo Bhava, to hear of this is very, very sad. It is, without question, a heinous incident. The law will take its course for sure, but I do hope that the guilty person is punished severely - you lock him up and throw away the keys. That's the only way, I think. Just lock him up and throw the keys away," Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.

The police report states that the suspect left the area after illegally touching one of the participants. The Indore Police's Crime Branch launched a swift inquiry after the Australian security guard promptly notified the authorities. The offender was located and taken into custody in a matter of hours, thanks in large part to CCTV evidence and eyewitness reports. 

Khan is a repeat offender with a history of criminal accusations, including robbery, assault, and attempted murder, according to police investigations. After a ten-year term, he was recently released from Bhairavgarh Jail. Following the incident, authorities have improved protection for all World Cup teams and are currently evaluating any possible breaches in local security arrangements.
