“I don’t think there will be…” - Sunil Gavaskar opens up on Jasprit Bumrah’s workload in Asia Cup 2025

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has opened up on the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah’s workload in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025 campaign, which is scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 9, in the United Arab Emirates.

Notably, Bumrah received a lot of flak after he was rested in two Tests against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy to manage his workload. However, Gavaskar asserted that with only four overs needed to be bowled, there wouldn't be any major problem for Bumrah to play the whole tournament. 

“In this Asia Cup, it is just a question of bowling four overs and that too it is not four overs at a stretch…So I don’t think there will be any problem for him to play this tournament. I mean there will be no workload problem for him because he has to bowl only four overs and there can be no problem,” Gavaskar said.

Bumrah’s last T20I game came back in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Barbados, which India won by seven runs to lift the silverware. 

India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will start their campaign against the UAE on September 10. Later, they will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on September 14 and end their group stage with a match against Oman on September 19. While India is a designated host, the tournament will be played in the venues in the UAE. 

While India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman are in Group A, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong are part of Group B.
