“We are all excited” - Suryakumar Yadav ahead of India vs Pakistan fixture in Asia Cup 2025

Team India skipper Suryakumar Yadav has stated that the Indian team is excited ahead of their Asia Cup 2025 clash against Pakistan, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai on Sunday, September 14.

It’s important to note that SKY’s comments came right after India’s nine-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, September 10. Interestingly, these comments came despite there having been widespread criticism of the Indian team for taking on their arch-rivals.

“We are all excited, everyone wants to play a good game, and we are really looking forward to it,” Surakumar Yadav said at the post-match presentation.

It’s worth noting that the Pahalgam terror attack earlier in April 2025 has worsened the situation between India and Pakistan. While India retaliated with Operation Sindoor, calls to boycott the India vs Pakistan game in the Asia Cup 2025 campaign grew stronger.

However, the Indian government gave a green light to the Indian team, keeping in mind the Olympics as the nation prepares to bid for the 2036 Olympics.

"Clinical performance from the boys, we wanted a good attitude and energy on the field and that's what we got. Recently a lot of the boys were here for the Champions Trophy, the wicket looked good but it was on the slower side and the spinners have a role here," Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation after defeating the UAE.

Moreover, the BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also had his say on the situation, defending the government’s decision to go ahead with the multinational tournaments. 

"The central government's sports department has laid down guidelines for participation in multinational tournaments. That is what we are following," Saikia stated.

India will next take on their arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, September 14 while their last group stage game is against Oman on Friday, September 19.
