The Hundred franchise Oval Invincibles to be rechristened MI London after Mukesh Ambani acquires stake- Report

MI London will be the new name for Oval Invincibles, the most successful team in The Hundred's history with two titles for both the men's and women's teams.

Oval Invincibles are expected to rebrand as MI London, the first choice of their Indian co-owners, according to a report published in The Telegraph on Thursday, August 21.

The ECB revealed earlier in July that the board had inked agreements with six key partners. Tech Titans, Knighthead Capital Management, RPSG Group, Sun TV Network Limited, GMR Group, and Washington Freedom are the six partners in question. With SRH, LSG, and DC owners joining The Hundred, the pact represents the IPL franchises' foray into yet another league.

RPSG Group acquired 70% of Manchester Originals, Tech Titans bought 49% of London Spirit, Knighthead Capital Management bought 49% of Birmingham Phoenix, Sun TV Network Limited bought 100% of Northern Superchargers, GMR Group bought 49% of Southern Brave, and Washington Freedom bought 50% of Welsh Fire.

Oval Invincibles to be renamed MI London

According to the source, Reliance Group, the owners of MI, would agree to buy 49% of Oval Invincibles later this year. This stake was bought for 123 million euros, and Invincibles was the latest addition to the list of teams owned by Ambani, which includes MI. Cape Town, Mumbai Indians, Mumbai Indians in WPL, MI New York, and MI Emirates.

“The name of the franchise from next year has been a contentious issue from the start and is not yet confirmed in writing. However, Telegraph Sport understands that it will be called MI London despite the wishes of Surrey, who initially wanted the county name incorporated into a rebranded Oval Invincibles,” The Telegraph report stated.

In addition to the Oval Invincibles, the Northern Superchargers will be renamed Sunrisers, while the Manchester Originals will become the Manchester Super Giants next season. According to reports, Sunrisers Leeds has been contemplated as a potential substitute for "Northern."
