Former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ratatunga has stated that Virat Kohli needs to discuss his batting problem with the stalwarts from the past to overcome his poor form and score some brilliant runs shortly.
With India heading to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to start on February 19, runs from Virat Kohli’s bat are important for Men In Blue to secure the title. Notably, the showpiece event is scheduled to take place in Dubai and Pakistan.
“I think what Kohli needs to do is speak to people like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar or a Rahul Dravid. That’s what he can do. They can certainly help him out,” Arjuna Ranatunga told The Telegraph Online.
The 1996 World Cup-winning Sri Lankan captain was in India to attend an event as a speaker at The Telegraph National Debate 2025 on Saturday. Furthermore, he opened up on Kohli’s future as well.
“For a player like Kohli who has scored so much of runs, I feel it’s best if that’s left to him. It’s a call that Kohli needs to take, so let him take it. Why always have the spotlight on him? It’s quite unnecessary I feel. It’s his decision, so let him take that,” Ranatunga added.
While Rohit Sharma found form in the second ODI against England with a century, Virat Kohli failed to create an impact, scoring only four runs after missing out on the first ODI due to a knee injury.
Moreover, Ranatunga also had his say on the current Sri Lankan team. He asserted that there is no dearth of talent in the current national team.
“There is no dearth of talent even in this current Sri Lankan team. Overall, it’s a pretty talented lot. Looking back at the 1996 team, only Aravinda (De Silva) was a few notches above the present team players.
