Sanju Samson’s father slams KCA

Indian keeper-batter Sanju Samson’s father, Samson Viswanath, has lashed out at the Kerala Cricket Assocation (KCA) for not blocking his son’s opportunities. Notably, Sanju Samson didn’t find a place in the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, Scheduled to start on February 19 in Pakistan and UAE.

Reporedly, Sanju Samson decided not to take part in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy and for the same reason he wasn’t considered to take a spot in Team India’s squad. Interestingly, he scored a century in his last ODI.

Though Samson was part of the Syed Musthaq Ali Trophy squad for Kerala, he wasn’t included in the VHT squad. However, Samson’s father stated that he was already known that his son wouldn’t be picked for the VHT campaign. He went on to accuse KCA officials for not letting his son play the competition.

“There are people within KCA who have something against my child. We’ve never spoken out against the association before, but this time, it’s become too much. Sanju isn’t the only one who didn’t attend the camp; yet other players in the same situation were allowed to play," Samson’s father told Mathrubhumi.com.

“It’s not about Jayesh George (KCA president) or Vinod (KCA secretary); it’s some small people in between who turn everything into poison over trivial matters," he added.

“We are sportsmen, not interested in the business of sports. All I want is for my son to be given a fair chance to play. If there’s any mistake, we’re open to discussion and ready to fix it,” he went on to add.

Sanju Samson's exclusion from the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy raised eyebrows as selectors went ahead with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as keeper-batter options for the ICC mega event.
