“This is not T20 mate” - Former England cricketer sends a warning to Arshdeep Singh ahead of Champions Trophy

Team India’s biggest concern in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is to fill Jasprit Bumrah’s void. Though Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Hardik Pandya are part of the pace battery, India might face a problem in the death overs in the showpiece event, scheduled to start on February 19.

Team India is coming into the Champions Trophy 2025 on the back of a 3-0 ODI series win against England. Former England cricketer David Bumble Lloyd asserted that Arshdeep Singh, who played only nine ODIs to date, might find it tough to take up the 50-over challenge in the marquee event.

"It's a great opportunity for someone to come in, someone who wouldn't make the team. But you can't get away from the fact that he (Bumrah) is the best bowler in the world, and if he isn't playing for you, you've got a problem" David Lloyd told TalkSport Cricket in an exclusive chat.

"Massive difference - four overs to 10. If you're the opposition, test him out; really get into him. This is not T20 mate, this is not a little party, you've got to come back and come back again', that will be something he won't be used to," Lloyd added.

Though Arshdeep Singh emerged as the nation’s highest T20I wicket-taker, he hasn’t played enough ODIs to date as it might be a bit tough to shift gears from T20Is to ODIs. While India is going into the showpiece event with five spinners, they have only four pacers named in the squad.

India's squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy.

Non-traveling substitutes: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube.
