TNPL 2025: Who won the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 season?

IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans won their maiden TNPL title as they defeated Dindigul Dragons by 118 runs in the final of the ninth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League. In the final, the Tamizhans were asked to bat first, and they posted 220/5 in 20 overs, thanks to a 77-run knock off 46 balls from their wicketkeeper-batter, Tushar Raheja. In reply, the Dragons were bundled out for just 102 runs.

Raheja not only won the Player of the Match award in that game but also bagged the Player of the Tournament award. With 488 runs in nine innings, Raheja finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer and won the Orange Cap. Even in terms of hitting the most number of boundaries and sixes, he finished at the top of the list.

But the Tamizhans’ journey was not as smooth as it seemed. In the first three games of the season, they suffered two defeats. However, they then went on a six-game winning streak, including the final. In the group stage, they finished in second place with 10 points from seven games and a net run rate of +1.733. Then, in Qualifier One, they defeated Chepauk Super Gillies, who had topped the group stage.

Dindigul Dragons came into this edition as the defending champions, having won the previous season. They finished third in the group stage with eight points from seven games and a net run rate of +0.191. In the Eliminator, they defeated Trichy Grand Cholas, and after that, in Qualifier Two, they emerged victorious against Chepauk Super Gillies. However, Ravichandran Ashwin and his team failed to cross the finish line in the final.

Apart from Raheja, two other players from the Tamizhans also shone brightly. One was Esakkimuthu A, the bowler who won the Emerging Player of the Tournament award with 14 wickets in eight innings.

The other was Raheja’s opening partner, Amith Sathvik, who won the Stylish Player of the Tournament award with 340 runs in nine innings. Their opening stands played a huge role in this successful campaign, and regarding that, as quoted by Sportstar, Raheja revealed how he enjoyed batting with Sathvik.

“I’ve enjoyed playing with Amith. We rarely speak during games because of our in-depth understanding of the sport. The only conversation we have while batting is to decide which bowler to take on. For instance, if it’s a leg-spinner, I will take the initiative. On the other hand, if it’s an off-spinner, Amith will take charge. It all boils down to reacting on the spot,” he said.
