T20 cricket has been dominated by the batters in the last few years. Four of the highest totals in IPL were scored last season. Scores of more than 250 runs were made on eight occasions. The bowlers had a tough time in the middle.
Three of the most expensive, including the first most expensive spells, were bowled in the last edition of the IPL. Mohit Sharma holds the record of bowling the most expensive spell in IPL while playing for the Gujarat Titans. He gave away 73 runs in four overs against Delhi Capitals, and the Capitals posted a total of 224 runs on the board.
In 2018, Basil Thampi bowled the second-most expensive over of IPL while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he gave away 70 runs in four overs.
Yash Dayal gave away 69 runs in four overs against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023 when he was a part of the Gujarat Titans. It was the same game where Rinku Singh hit five consecutive sixes to win the game for the Knight Riders.
In the fourth position is former Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s bowler Reece Topley. He gave away 68 runs in four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad last season and managed to pick the wicket of Abhishek Sharma. It was the game where Sunrisers scored 287 runs for the loss of three wickets, the highest total in IPL so far.
Mumbai Indians signed Luke Wood as a replacement player for Jason Behrendorff in 2024. In his second game for the franchise against Delhi Capitals, the left-arm pacer conceded 68 runs in four overs and picked the wicket of Shai Hope.
