Top 5 highest team totals in IPL history

Since the last edition of the IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad has been on a mission to cross the 300-run mark. They came close to achieving this number in their first game against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, March 23. 

Ishan Kishan, who was picked by the franchise in the mega auction, scored his maiden century against RR. SRH finished with 286 runs for the loss of six wickets on the board. Travis Head also had a great outing with the bat for SRH and made 67 runs off 31 deliveries. However, this is not in the first place on the list of highest team totals in IPL history. 

The highest team total was scored last season when SRH faced Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 30th match. Head scored 102 runs off 41 deliveries and Heinrich Klaasen made 67 runs off 31 deliveries. They both helped SRH score 287 runs for the loss of three wickets. It was the first time the 280-run mark was breached in the IPL.

Last season was one of the best in terms of making the highest team totals. Eight out of the top 10 highest team totals in IPL history were scored in 2024. Before 2024, the highest team total record was with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The team scored 263 runs for the loss of five wickets in 2013 against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India. It was the same match where Chris Gayle scored an unbeaten 175 runs off 66 deliveries.

The record for the highest score in the second innings is with Punjab Kings. PBKS chased down the target of 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in 18.4 overs last year. Jonny Bairstow scored a century, while Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh scored a half-century each.
