The Indian Cricket Board is looking ahead to meeting the skipper Rohit Sharma, alongside the coach and the chief selector Ajit Agarkar to decide the future of the Indian cricket team. Apart from this, there will also be a discussion on the future of skipper Sharma in the T20I format considering Team India’s preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Notably, Rohit Sharma recently led the Indian team in a very successful run in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023 where the side won 10 consecutive matches in the tournament, except only one, and a big heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the final of the prestigious cricket quadrennial.

Just after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023, there have been speculations and reports in the media that Rohit Sharma could quit the T20I format and there are very less chances of him playing the T20 World Cup 2024 for India.

But all these rumours and speculations are yet to be confirmed as the meeting of Rohit Sharma, coach and Ajit Agarkar with the Indian Cricket Board is reported to be held around the 2nd and 3rd of December.

Apart from this, a lot of former cricketers across the world backed Rohit Sharma to lead the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 as well considering his experience, alongside the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

"They both need to get picked, both should be picked. More importantly, I want to see Rohit Sharma as captain in the T20 World Cup. Yes, Hardik has been captaining in T20Is but I would still want to see Rohit as captain in the World Cup. Don't pick Rohit Sharma only as a batter. Rohit is a phenomenal leader, he has proved that with his leadership and batting in this ODI World Cup. If you are picking Rohit, which you should then he should be selected as a captain who can bat. And Virat also should be an automatic choice," said former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir on Sportskeeda during a panel discussion.
