Varun Aaron suggests Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli to follow Dhoni’s path & play domestic cricket

After their dismal return to ODIs, Indian superstar batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been advised to learn from MS Dhoni. After a seven-month hiatus, the pair failed to create an impression in the opening ODI against Australia, as Rohit was removed for eight runs. However, Virat was unable to open his account.

Varun Aaron, a former fast bowler for India, noted after their defeats that the two must play regular cricket to stay relevant because they currently only play one format. He talked about how MS Dhoni continued to practise for matches after retiring from Test cricket by playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Dhoni participated in a domestic event for Jharkhand after retiring from the longest format. He played in eight games the following season after playing in seven games during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2015–16.

“Play domestic cricket. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy starts in November and then the Vijay Hazare Trophy starts in December. That’s the best way to be in touch with the game. I remember when MS Dhoni retired from Test cricket, he played a few Syed Mushaq Ali and Vijay Hazare Trophy. That’s a great way to stay in touch. I am sure both the batters are going to look at that. Now, you are not playing two formats. They are going to need match practice,” said Aaron on Star Sports.

At Perth's Optus Stadium, Rohit started his innings against Mitchell Starc with a straight drive, marking his first international appearance in seven months. Josh Hazlewood, however, got rid of him with a brilliant delivery that gave the former India captain the outside edge for a catch at second slip by Matthew Renshaw, who was making his debut.

However, Starc's exposure of Kohli's previous vulnerability and tendency to escape from a delivery placed outside off-stump ensnared the next player to enter the game. At the backward point, Cooper Connolly caught him after he went for the drive.

Between the ODI matches against South Africa and New Zealand at home, Kohli and Rohit are allegedly anticipated to play at least three matches in the forthcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy series, but this has not been confirmed yet.
