Varun Chakravarthy propels to No.1 spot in ICC T20I rankings for bowlers

Team India mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy, has been elevated to the No.1 rank in the newly released ICC T20I Rankings on Wednesday, September 17, following his spells of 1/4 against the UAE and 1/24 against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign. 

For the unversed, Chakaravarthy is now the third Indian bowler to achieve this feat after Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishoni. Notably, the Indian wrist spinner went past the New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy to make it to the pole position.

On the other hand, Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara propelled six spots to the sixth rank after scalping a wicket in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 competition. Moreover, Pakistan left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem rocketed four spots to the 11th rank.

Additionally, Indian bowling all-rounder Axar Patel moved one spot up to the 12th rank while Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed ascended 11 spots to the 16th rank. Furthermore, Indian attacking spinner Kuldeep Yadav rose 16 spots to the 23rd rank while Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad is occupying the 25th rank.

Moving to the details of the ICC T20I Batting Rankings, Indian star young opener Abhishek Sharma continued to strengthen his pole position after his exceptional 30-run knock off 16 balls against the UAE and 31 runs off 13 balls against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

On the other hand, England opening batters Phil Salt and Jos Buttler moved one spot up each to the second and third ranks respectively. While Salt smacked 141* off 60 balls, Buttler scored 83 off 30 balls against South Africa in the recently concluded T20I series.

In the ICC T20I all-rounders rankings, Hardik Pandya continues to lead the standings with 237 rating points. On the other hand, Saim Ayub, Pakistani all-rounder, moved four spots up to the fifth rank.
