Former Indian skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli added another glorious feather in his cap. He completed his 49th ODI century and equalled the world record of former legendary Indian batter Sachin, who also had 49 ODI centuries in his ODI career. Kohli achieved this feat in the ongoing 37th clash of the ODI World Cup 2023, against South Africa.

Kohli played an unbeaten knock of 101 runs, hitting 10 runs; his century helped India to post a total of 326 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Notably, Kohli also became the fastest to reach the 49 ODI centuries in his international career.

The more special thing in the 49th ODI century of Virat Kohli was that it came on his 35th birthday, which added to the list of very few cricketers who achieved this feat on their birthdays. Kohli’s century also garnered a lot of praise from the cricket fans.

Kohli guides India's first innings on a tough wicket

Speaking of the action of the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first; batting first, Rohit Sharma provided a fiery start with his blistering and quick knock of 40 runs off just 24 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Following Rohit, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer also scored the crucial knocks of 101 and 77 runs, respectively. Later in the end, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja also played the quick cameos of 22 and 29 runs, respectively.

Except for Aiden Markram, all the South African bowlers scalped one wicket each. Eventually, India managed to get a total of 326 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 50 overs.

While chasing the target, South Africa have scored 21 runs for the loss of one wicket in 7.5 overs while chasing the target of 327 runs.
