In an interesting turn of events, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday, July 5, mutually agreed to postpone the white-ball series between Bangladesh and India to September 2026. Initially, the series was scheduled to take place in August 2025.
The series that was scheduled to take place in Bangladesh was set to have a three-match ODI series and as many T20Is to be played from August 17 to 31 in Chattogram and Dhaka. However, the fresh set of dates for September next year hasn’t been announced.
"This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams,” the BCCI said in a release.
"The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course," the BCB release said.
With this news of postponement, the Indian fans need to wait to see the return of the talismanic batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who will take part only in the ODI format now, keeping the ODI World Cup 2027 in mind.
It’s important to note that the two boards stated that the reason for postponing the series was due to scheduling inconveniences. However, various reports asserted that the BCCI wanted the series to be rescheduled due to the security concerns in the country.
Notably, the BCCI wanted the tour to take place after the general elections are held in Bangladesh and “a stable government is in place taking care of the law and order situation.”
It’s worth noting that the Elections in Bangladesh aren’t scheduled to take place anytime soon and will only take place next year.
