Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu requested the Indian star batter Virat Kohli not to retire from Tests. For the unversed, there were reports of Kohli’s retirement from Tests ahead of the England tour in the new WTC cycle.
In June and July, India is scheduled to travel to England for a five-match Test series in the new World Test Championship cycle. Virat Kohli’s experience and services would play a pivotal role for Team India on the tour.
In his tweet for Kohli, Rayudu stated that the Indian talismanic batter has a lot left in his tank, and the Test format will not be the same without Kohli. Additionally, Rayudu wanted the Indian batting giant to reconsider his decision before the England tour.
"Virat Kohli please don’t retire.. The Indian team needs you more than ever. You have so much more in the tank. Test cricket will not be the same without you walking out to battle it out for Team India.. Please reconsider.." Rayudu posted on X (Twitter).
Shifting our focus to Kohli’s stats, since his Test debut in 2011, he has played 210 innings in Tests, accumulating 9230 runs at an exceptional average of 46.85 with 30 centuries and 31 fifties, with his highest individual score being an unbeaten knock of 254.
Meanwhile, the BCCI officials and selection committee have given Kohli an option to reconsider his retirement decision, taking a few days to come up with the ultimate decision. Interestingly, Kohli had already made up his mind on retirement. However, Kohli would be coming up with his ultimate decision before the selection committee announces the final squad for the England tour.
"He is still incredibly fit and hungry. His presence in the dressing room lifts the entire team. We've requested him to take some time before making a final call," said a senior BCCI official on condition of anonymity.
