Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma demoted in the newly announced central contracts by BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Monday, February 9, revealed the men’s and women’s central contracts for the 2025–26 season, which will cover the period from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026.

Delving into the details of the men’s contracts, Indian stalwart batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been demoted from Grade A+ to Grade B, following their retirement from Tests and T20Is. 

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja are occupying the top category Grade A with the BCCI removing the Grade A+ category for the ongoing season. Also, Sai Sudharsan is the lone player to receive a central contract for the first time. 

Moving forward into the details of the men’s contracts, Sarfaraz Khan, Mohammed Shami, Ishan Kishan, Rajat Patidar, and Mukesh Kumar have been axed from the list. Notably, Kishan made his way to the T20I team most recently, but couldn’t make it to the central contracts list.

In the women’s contracts, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Deepti Sharma have been retained in the Grade A, while the top-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been promoted to the top grade.

Sneh Rana has been promoted from Grade C to Grade B. On the other hand, Pratika Rawal, Kranti Gaud, Sree Charani, Kashvee Gautam, G Kamalini, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Tejal Hasabnis have all been awarded central contracts for the first time.

Grade A - Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja.

Grade B - Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer.

Grade C - Axar Patel, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Verma, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Dhruv Jurel, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhishek Sharma, Sai Sudharsan, Ravi Bishnoi.

BCCI Women's Contracts

Grade A - Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma.

Grade B - Renuka Thakur, Sneh Rana, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh.

Grade C - Radha Yadav, Amanjot Kaur, Pratika Rawal, Kranti Gaud, Uma Chetry, Arundhati Reddy, Sree Charani, Yastika Bhatia, Harleen Deol, Kashvee Gautam, G Kamalini, Vaishnavi Sharma, Tejal Hasabnis.
