The nephew of cricketing great Virat Kohli, Aryaveer Kohli, recently made headlines when South Delhi Superstarz, the 2024 Delhi Premier League runners-up, paid Rs 1 lakh for him at the 2025 auctions. Because of his well-known family connection, his selection has raised interest, but Aryaveer is eager to establish himself in the cricket community.
The son of Virat's older brother Vikas Kohli, Aryaveer, has trained at the West Delhi Cricket Academy under his uncle's long-time coach Rajkumar Sharma, despite not having yet played for Delhi at the age-group level.
The youngster recently gave an explanation for his decision to play leg-spin rather than bat like his famous uncle, saying that he made the decision after watching videos of Yuzvendra Chahal and Shane Warne.
According to a report by NDTV, "I used to bowl right from the start. I liked leg-spin and started doing that. I saw a lot of videos of Yuzvendra Chahal and Shane Warne. That's how I became a leg-spinner," he said.
Despite being picked by the South Delhi team, the leg spinner did not participate in any games. However, South Delhi Superstars head coach Sarandeep Singh praised Kohli for his self-control and diligent work ethic.
Aryaveer has decided to follow his cricket career on his own terms, despite the fact that Virat Kohli has established himself as one of India's finest batters. Instead of depending entirely on his uncle's legacy, he wants to grow as a person and leave his mark on his own.
The young player now has a stage on which to display his skills thanks to his Delhi Premier League selection. Both selectors and fans will be keenly observing him to see how he handles pressure and whether he can live up to the expectations associated with his cricketing heritage.
